Originally from South Africa, Paola was inspired to become a Pilates instructor when studying dance. Pilates improved her performance, body awareness and enabled her to recover from a back injury. It helped her discover new ways of moving she had never had access to before. This revelation about the mind body connection has kept her fascinated ever since.
Paola became a Pilates instructor in 2001, while completing her degree in dance-teaching. In 2006 Paola moved to London where she was given the opportunity to further her knowledge as a Pilates teacher and continued her education with The Pilates Foundation UK. Anne-Marie Zulkahari, her master trainer, was a major influence as she encouraged Paola to keep questioning, learning and above all, keep her mind open.
Through her teaching, Paola aims to bring each client a greater awareness of their individual movement habits and to remodel any faulty patterns. She focuses on promoting functional movement for everyday activities, incorporating the Pilates principles of breathing, coordination, control, precision, centring, and fluidity. She encourages self-awareness and understanding of each unique body, improving her clients’ self image and leaving them feeling grounded and at ease with themselves.
