Roula first became interested in Pilates as a dancer in 1986 and was amazed by the results as she started to incorporate it into her dance training. As a dancer, Roula performed on television, in musical theatre and on stage, as well as training and working with choreographers Ronne Arnold, Jane Beckett, Sue-Ellen Chester, Stephen Page among many.
In 1993, she travelled with Bangarra Dance Theatre to New York and LA before staying in New York to attend a three-month workshop at Alvin Ailey. Returning to Sydney she co-founded and was producer and director of Kila Produktionz, as well as working in radio, television, and on the stage. In 1996, she staged the musical Characterz at Enmore Theatre. Roula has taught Pilates, dance and choreography at numerous dance colleges and schools throughout Sydney.
In 1999, she became certified in the New York Pilates Method and has been fortunate to experience the many styles of Pilates and rehabilitation techniques working in countless studios worldwide. Roula has completed a course in Kinesiology, EFT and The Anatomy and Physiology of Yoga with Simon-Oliver Borg, a renowned physiotherapist and biologist.
Currently she is running mat classes at Bondi Pavilion for Waverly Seniors’ Centre where her clients are aged 50-94. Roula continues to train in yoga and Pilates, and, in 2011, completed her Polestar Pilates accreditation.
For Roula, the beauty of Pilates is its accessibility for all ages, body conditions and goals. She loves seeing people finish the session transformed in mind, body and energy. Her experience and friendly disposition make it fun and an enjoyable workout to suit the needs of every body.
